Cateleya Orchid

These were photographed at St. John's festival in Kula. Though discovered in 1817, a myth grew up in 1893 that Catteleya orchids were discovered accidentally when used as packing material for some ferns being sent from Brazil to England. The story was not corrected until 1900 when the written account of William Swain's 1817 Brazilian travels and orchid discovery was found.
